Fort Laurens - Ohio Historical Society
Fort Laurens was built by American Continental Army troops in November 1778 in order to chastise the Ohio Indians who were siding with the British. Originally this outpost was meant as a stepping stone on an attack on the British at Detroit, but this attack never materialized. Plagued by a shortage of supplies and the distance from the supply post at Ft. Pitt, the garrison suffered greatly during the winter of 1779. Twenty-one troops were killed during an ambush by British-led Indians during a March 1779 siege. The fort was abandoned in August 1779.
Today, the fort site has been excavated, and the artifacts displayed in a small museum at the site, which also contains an orientation video and information about the troops.
Museum is open Memorial Day - Labor Day. The park also contains a picnic area, which is also open in April, May, September and October.

Columbus Washboard Company
The Columbus Washboard Company is proud to be the last remaining Manufacturer of genuine Washboards in the USA. Our company was founded in 1895 in Columbus and remained in the Grandview area until it was purchased by an investment group in Logan in 1999. The complete factory was moved to the old shoe factory in Logan just 50 miles south east of Columbus, in June of 1999.
We welcome tourists to our factory daily for an informal 30 minute tour. We still have in our facility all of the old machinery and presses that have produced our washboards for 109 years. During their walk back in time, guests find the old machinery fascinating. We can all be thankful that we no longer have to rely on doing our laundry the old fashioned way.
Our soldiers presently deployed overseas are learning how to do their laundry the old-fashioned way, we have sent over 4,000 washboards to Iraq and Afghanistan so far. We also include a full kit of laundry items, washtubs, clothes-line, clothes pins, soap and of course instructions are included in their packages. Judging by the wonderful letters we receive, our kits are very popular with the troops. View the Worlds largest Washboard attached to the building. 24'x 12'

Delphos Postal Museum
Step into the refurbished lobby of this unusual sandstone and granite post office built in 1933 and experience, through sight and sound, the development of transportation from the days of horse-drawn wagons to sorting mail on trains and buses. Learn about the evolution of letters, envelopes, manuscript postmarks, and special cancellations of rare stamps. Explore the role of the U. S. Postal Service in World War II. Most items are property of the US Postal Service or are on loan from the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D. C.
The Museum recently opened a new WW II exhibit. The main focus of the exhibit is to show how the human spirit can be sustained by the power of personal letters and the written word. One exhibit tells the story of how 2 cousins, 1 in Germany and 1 in America, bolstered each other's spirits by writing letters during the war years. Another exhibit was created by the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D. C. for the National Postal Museum. It begins with the heartbreaking story of the SS St. Louis, a ship bound from Germany to Havana, Cuba, and 930 refugees. It follows the life of one of the survivors over a 7-year period.

Tours consist of the seven rooms in the Birthplace, as well as the office next door where tickets are purchased. The rooms are furnished with period family pieces, as well as various inventions through which guests are told of Edison, his family, and the impact of Thomas Edison and his ideas on the world. In all, Edison had 1,093 American patents to his credit. Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center
The state of Ohio is referred to as the "Mother of Presidents" because eight of its native sons - more than any other state - have served as U.S. President. Ohio also lays claim to the first presidential library in the nation - the Rutherford B. Hayes Library/Museum in Fremont. The library opened to the public May 30, 1916. This memorial to our 19th President served as a model for later presidential libraries, in particular the second presidential library in the nation - the FDR Library. Often overlooked because it is not part of the federal system of presidential libraries, the Hayes Library/Museum is independently owned and operated. Major additions in 1922 and 1968 brought the Hayes Museum & Library to its present configuration of exhibit galleries, Research Library, and storage areas totaling 52,640 feet.
In 1965, President Hayes' descendants donated the 31-room Hayes Home for use as a house-museum. Today, visitors to the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center can tour the Hayes Home and Hayes Museum, utilize the vast resources of the Hayes Library, visit the President's burial site, see the original gates from the White House, and walk through 25-acres of President Hayes' beloved "Spiegel Grove" estate. Admission fees are charged for Home and Museum tours. The Library and grounds can be accessed for free.
