A Florida man managed to escape cops after a high-speed chase and still end up behind bars — because he had to call 911 for help when he wrecked his car while fleeing.
Deputies took off in pursuit of Jason Dyer when he blew by a checkpoint at more than 90 miles per hour in the wee hours of Saturday morning, then led them on a chase that lasted for nearly half an hour — until dispatchers called it too dangerous to continue. Dyer continued on his way, but a different group of cops found his BMW flipped at the side of the road, with the 38-year-old nowhere in sight.
A few minutes later, emergency dispatchers got a call traced to Dyer’s cell phone, in which he said he needed medical help. He was taken to a hospital for treatment, then transported to jail, where he was booked on a variety of charges.
