A California restaurant is feeling the heat from critics after word got out that it had been serving customers fried chicken from Popeyes.
A customer left a Yelp review for Sweet Dixie Kitchen in Long Beach that reads, “Before my friends and I got seated we saw them quickly bring in two large boxes of Popeyes to the kitchen.” He then added that his order of fried chicken and waffles tasted “suspiciously like Popeyes” and asked the waiter how they prepare their fried chicken. That’s when the server admitted that they order in Popeyes.
The restaurant’s owner, Kimberly Sanchez, responded to the criticism saying, “We proudly serve Popeyes’ spicy tenders — the best fried chicken anywhere and from New Orleans, which are delivered twice a day. We also, in case you need to know, buy our gumbo from a friend who sells it at a local farmers market.” She added that since her kitchen isn’t set up for frying, they decided to bring in the best fried chicken they could think of and that’s Popeyes. Sanchez added some snark, saying that they “don’t mill our own flour” or “grow our own veggies.”
