A Florida man tried to hide behind the good neighbor policy when acting like a really bad neighborhood — by burglarizing the house next door, then calling cops to say the joint was unlocked, and looked like it was in danger of being robbed.
Jefferey Allen Dove learned that the guy next door was in the hospital, so he decided to break in and help himself to electronics, jewelry and cash — to the tune of $1,400. He then went home and called 911 to report that he noticed the door was wide open, and expressed concern that something might happen.
When the victim was released from the hospital, Dove returned some of the items, claiming that he purchased the items from multiple people in the neighborhood without knowing they were stolen. Cops, however, reviewed surveillance video showing Dove stealing the items by placing them in a trash can outside the residence and rolling it away. (Villages News)
