We talked with Dr. Anike about screening for coronary artery disease
The healthcare professionals at Lima Memorial Health System are at the forefront in our region when providing medical teatment for Coronary Artery Disease.
More than 3 million cases of Coronary Artery Disease are diagnosed each year. The usual cause is the buildup of plaque, causing the Coronary Arteries to narrow, thus limiting blood flow to the heart. It can range from no symptoms, to chest pain, to a heart attack. Treatments include lifestyle changes, medication, angioplasty, and surgery.
You can make healthy changes to lower your risk of developing heart disease. Controlling and preventing risk factors is also important for people who already have heart disease. To lower your risk:
- Watch your weight.
- Quit smoking and stay away from secondhand smoke.
- Control your cholesterol and blood pressure.
- If you drink alcohol, drink only in moderation.
- Get active and eat healthy.
